Music In the Classroom
Kindergarten
Our main goal in Kindergarten is to achieve tuneful singing and understanding of basic musical elements. Some of the elements that are taught in Kinder are loud/quiet, beat comprehension, fast/slow, high/low and Beat versus rhythm.

1st Grade
In first grade students dive into the musical terminology that is applied to real world scenarios. Students learn basic rhythmic notation like quarter notes, eighth notes, quarter rest, meter and melodic elements such as movable solfege a hand sign method used to teach pitch and sight singing . Students are also introduced to the musical staff.

2nd Grade
In second grade,students begin to learn musical terminology that reinforces their previous knowledge. Students learn new rhythmic notation like half notes sixteenth notes and more. In regards to melodic elements, students learn new solfege syllables like do and re, they are also introduced to basic scales like pentatonic scales. Their musical knowledge is put to work with the use of barred percussion like xylophones.
3rd Grade
In third grade students begin to apply their knowledge of musical terms and apply it to the musical staff . Students also learn more complex rhythms patterns that combine previous rhythmic elements and melodic elements that are from the extended range which include low la and high do solfege syllables. Students apply their musical skills in the recorder through our recorder karate program.

4th Grade
Students extend their musical vocabulary by learning offset rhythms like syncopation, dotted rhythms and triple meter. In regards to melodic elements, students begin to learn half step intervals such as fa. Their instrumental journey continues with level two of recorder karate.

5th grade
Student learn complete scales like the major scale and minor scales.They are also introduced to compound meter and rhythmic notation that is associated with compound meter. Their recorder journey concludes with level three of recorder karate.
